Insignia Global Partners are thrilled to be in partnership with an illustrious private healthcare company, who are looking for a talented Resident Doctor to join their new service in Salisbury. Insignia will provide you with one to one consultancy to guarantee you have the personal assistance and support you need throughout the whole recruitment process and to ensure you are placed in a role that matches your preferences and clinical skills.

The purpose of your role as Resident Medical Officer is to provide continuous on-site medical support service to meet the needs of patients, consultants, and nursing staff.  This includes emergency procedures and providing a general service to all clinical areas as per the roster.

Responsibilities

Clinical Management of Patients:

  • To undertake thorough examination for each patient and document clinical findings on admission
  • To summarise relevant medical history, circumstances leading to the impairment/disability for patients
  • Attend ward rounds with consulting staff, as required, and be available to discuss patient treatment plans
  • As a Resident Medical Officer team provide 24-hour medical service within the hospital on a permanent on-call basis and managing rosters to cover RMO team absences
  • Inform admitting consultants of changes in medical condition of patients and of relevant action taken
  • To attend multi-disciplinary team meetings as required
  • Follow the instructions of consultants for their specific regime for each individual patient
  • Perform clinical procedures as requested by consultant medical staff and nursing staff, these may include phlebotomy, giving of intravenous drugs to patients, urethral and supra-pubic catheterisation
  • Initiate and alter in-patient prescriptions at consultant’s request or if you consider appropriate (you are expected to make Consultant aware of changes)
  • Write up “to take home prescriptions” for patients as required
  • Visit all in-patients daily and document in clinical notes
  • Visit patients as required at the request of the nursing staff
  • To participate in out-patient clinics
  • To be familiar with all relevant procedures/policies
  • To be familiar with Hospital and company clinical policies. To be aware of the Hospitals’ clinical risk programme and report clinical incidents, drug errors and near misses
  • To participate in clinical audit, research and implementation of clinical governance

Operational:

  • To be completely familiar with emergency equipment
  • To dispense drugs with senior nurse on duty in absence of pharmacist from the onsite Pharmacy
  • To record all treatments performed in patient notes
  • To provide a full handover report to Resident Medical Officer commencing the next shift

Emergency:

  • To carry out Cardiac Arrest and other Emergency Procedures as per hospital policy
  • To initiate emergency treatments for patients, staff and visitors and complete appropriate documentation

In-Service Education & Promotion of the Hospital:

  • Promote patient care by liaison with all departments
  • Participate in the in-service education programme, inclusive of CPR, Health & Safety Training and Fire
  • Ensure medical competence by continual professional development and reading of current medical journals
  • Promote the Hospital by showing empathy and compassion to patients, their families and friends
  • Promote the Hospital by demonstrating a customer focused approach at all times to patients, consultants and staff
  • Agree a CPD programme with the Medical Director

Relationships:

  • Professionally accountable to the Medical Director
  • Liaises closely with nursing staff and other relevant clinical or administrative staff
  • Uses designated mentor in order to discuss clinical (or non-clinical) situations occurring within the Hospital

Decision Making Authority:

  • Can initiate emergency medical care as required within the hospital for medical and surgical emergencies

General:

  • To comply with Group organisational standards, policies and procedures
  • To report any defects, damage, theft, breakages or hazards
  • To attend mandatory training as outlined in Company policies and procedures including ALS updates
  • To respect the confidentiality and individuality of service users
  • To carry out other duties as will, from time to time, be directed

 

Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified doctor fully registered with General Medical Council (GMC)
  • License to Practice registration
  • Valid Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Minimum experience equivalent to that of a 2nd year Senior House Officer
  • Relevant experience as per hospital requirements in general medicine
  • Competent in emergency procedures, e.g. intubations
  • Experience in Orthopaedics
  • Experience in Neurology
  • Experience in Rehabilitation
  • Ability to source information and benchmark services against best practice
  • Able to work as a positive role model and promote the development of service excellence
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with a range of stakeholders (ELATS)
  • Computer literature, including report writing
  • Understanding and ability to work as a member of the wider team, supporting the delivery of excellent services
  • Responsible, reliable and flexible approach to work
  • Organised and able to prioritise own workloads, and others, with the ability to work to deadlines and with competing priorities
  • Positive attitude to self-development and supporting others in doing so
