“I’ve been so lucky”
Initially, when she arrived in the UK, Akosua worried that she would not be able to complete her role. However, Akosua recalls that she has been “so lucky throughout this whole process… my highlight has actually been my colleagues at work who helped and supported me as I arrived and guided me to assume my role. I’m so grateful for that and I continue to learn every day.” Akosua finds her role challenging but stimulating. She states that going to work every day “knowing you have a team who supports you is my highlight”.
“It’s well worth the effort”
Through Akosua’s determination and motivation to achieve her dream role, she completed her application, including her IELTS exam. Akosua does not want this to discourage anyone: “My advice to anyone who is starting this process or at any stage of it is that aim for a goal, stay focused and don’t let failure distract you. Use it as a stepping stone to get to the result you want. At the end of the day I assure you that it’s well worth the effort.”
